Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session

The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.

Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at the evening session.

Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.

His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running.

Tsunoda slid over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to avoid just a slight brush of the wall.

The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill corner before the final corner on to the pit straight.

The veteran finished practice in 19th place, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.

The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's car in third, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time.

The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
